The Avoidance List

We all have nagging tasks that we continually put off until next week, next month or even next year. Sometimes the longer we put off these tasks the more they cost us financially, physically or emotionally. A lingering "should" can really increase your stress level, even if you aren't aware of it. This past year I hit my "avoidance list" hard. I finally had the dreaded gum recession surgery, completed a living trust, hired a personal trainer, and converted our wedding video to DVD. I've wanted to do each of these tasks for years, but never took the time to make them happen. So what changed? It's really fun and simple actually. First, you write your avoidance list. Put everything down. Second, ask a close friend if they would like to play the avoidance game with you.
The rules are simple. Once one of you completes a step toward the elimination of a task on your list, text your friend. Now, they are "it." And back and forth it goes until all tasks are completed. At this point, the friends have some sort of celebration. This game is highly effective and creates a certain bond between friends. Let the games begin!
